Whether you are hoping to become pregnant in the future or have been lucky enough to already have that big fat positive pregnancy test result, you’ll be anxious to know how you can move safely to give you and your baby the best start in your pregnancy journey.
It is an exciting but nerve-racking time as you want to make sure you are not doing anything that will harm you or affect your baby’s development in these early stages. The trimester 1 consultation will give you the information and reassurance you need to confidently navigate this often challenging first trimester.
What will I learn?
The benefits of appropriate exercise during pregnancy, both for you and your baby
What the evidence recommends: how much, how hard, how often you should exercise during pregnancy including the types of exercise that will be most safe and beneficial in your preparation for pregnancy, labour and early parenthood
Changes that happen to the body in the first 12 weeks. Although not a lot changes on the outside, there’s a whole bunch happening on the inside which may impact how you feel and how you are able to exercise. You will take away lots of practical tips to help you work around the symptoms you might experience and guidance on how to adapt lots of common functional exercises.
When to stop exercising. No pain no gain right? Wrong. Although we might want to push through discomfort, it’s important to know when to take a break or seek medical advice from your pregnancy care team.
Contraindications to exercise. There might be times where certain medical conditions dictate that exercise is not advised. If you are exercising independently or in a group environment where your trainer is not aware of these restrictions, it is vital to know when not to exercise for the safety of yourself and your baby.
